Do you have any ideas on ways that the community can help market
Clipperz?

The more people that use it, the greater the possibility that work
might continue on it.

As it stands, development is held hostage to donations, and the
current userbase does not have the cash to put up.

Anyway, all you amateur marketeers out there, hold forth!

Why not get a Facebook account and a Like button? Same for Twitter,
Linked In, and the newest social/business networking sites.

Also, have you advertised in any techy mags? Wired would be the
obvious choice and probably well worth the cost, whatever it is. But
secondary mags directed at IT types, Web developers, and programmers
would at least get you some major exposure to the right group for
subsequent word of mouth.

A blog review writing competition would help spread the word. Though these doesn't seem to be popular anymore. Alternately a referral campaign. Refer five friends who become active users and get some small something.

And for prices? A general interest ebook about security or something. It does not have to be a big expensive prize for it to be an incentive.

Have you considered alternate business models? 2 USD per month from a few hundred users for a Premium Service is quite a bit of money to get started on. As for Premium Services, you could offer hosting "on your own domain" and do a CNAME on a user's sub-domain or something. As an alternate for groups and individuals who do not want to host it themselves. Or as a slightly more expensive way of getting that username you've always wanted.

Extra security in the form of a YubiKey* would also be worth a dollar or two per month + registration price for the device. See http://yubico.com/yubikey That is something you could not offer in the Community Edition because it requires some serverside stuff to talk to the application.

I hope these suggestions help further the development.

Hi and I would like to help. We all have increasing difficulties remembering and keeping logins safe.

I really like this site (now) and the way the developers have some light support for books on the net.

Main problem is the instructions - I was lucky to have a day free to work it out - few simple things needed in the english, which may not be a problem in the italian version of use. Best thing is to get a novice who has just joined (like me) to write the instructions as it is too obvious to the authors.

The developers are welcome to contact me - and if they do I will joint the list of donors!

We are indeed thinking about a few premium features (mostly tied to
the upcoming mobile version) in that price range!
By early October we will certainly make a few announcements about
Clipperz plans.

Hi Alec,
it's nice to see how much attention you guys pay to our words! :)

Yes, we did take a decision: we are going to adopt a "mobile first"
strategy that will also lead to some kind of "premium service" to
enable access to a subset of new features.

This does not mean that we are going to build native apps for each
platform, we will stay true to our beliefs in pure web apps and
release a new version of the web app that will play nicely on small
touchscreens.

We've just completed a major migration to a new server (Joyent
SmartOS) and we are now ready to resume actual development.
So things will move faster from now on! :)
