The Endangered Peoples”
The focus will be on mineral exploration and mining and the impacts
that resources extraction will have on the social, political, and
spiritual dimensions of who we are as Indigenous peoples. Our spiritual
connection to the land and Natural World requires that we maintain our
responsibilities in our homeland. Exploration and open mining will sever
those relations and lead to the extinction of KI people as distinct

2. The Labourer-Teacher program (L-T for short) is the original
literacy program of Frontier College. We recruit, train and send
Labourer-Teachers to work and teach across Canada. It is a job which
entails plenty of hard work and little pay; however, the personal
rewards are boundless.
We are seeking mature and dedicated individuals seeking challenging
summer job opportunities and who possess a keen interest in
international and rural development work and/or literacy and teaching to
fill the positions of Labourer-Teachers in the Frontier College
Labourer-Teacher program for 2010.
Labourer-Teachers work as paid manual labourers during the day on farms
across Canada. In addition to the physical work, they volunteer their
time to provide educational and recreational opportunities for their
co-workers who are predominantly migrant farm workers from Mexico and
the Caribbean.
Frontier College is expanding the program to include central Ontario.
This will include areas around Peterborough, Northumberland and Durham
counties. If you are interested in reading more about this or any of
our other programs please visit www.frontiercollege.ca.

3. Asian Disaster Relief Fund
Typhoons, earthquakes, and tsunamis have wrought death and
destruction in the Asia Pacific region this week. Hundreds of
lives have been lost, many are still missing, and hundreds of thousands
of people have been affected.
In response, the GVN Team has launched an Asia Pacific Emergency
appeal to assist two communities in desperate need who are
particularly dear to our hearts - CERV, our partner in the
Philippines, and Samoa, the island neighbour to our headquarters
here in New Zealand.
I urge you to please consider making a donation to one of our
emergency appeals to assist the victims of these disasters. 100%
OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE FUND.
PHILIPPINES DISASTER RELIEF FUND
Click to donate:
http://www.gvnfoundation.org/programs/emergency_relief/philippines/
Typhoon Ketsana has rampaged through the Philippines, killing
over 330 people and forcing millions to flee their homes.
Officials have reported that 2.3 million people had their homes
flooded, and 400,000 were seeking help in relief centers.
SAMOA DISASTER RELIEF FUND
Click to donate:
http://www.gvnfoundation.org/programs/emergency_relief/samoa/
Disaster struck when a powerful 8.0-magnitude undersea quake
unleashed tsunamis on the vulnerable Pacific islands. Four
tsunami waves up to six metres high roared ashore in Samoa,
travelling up to 1.6km inland - tossing cars into trees, razing
buildings and sweeping its victims back out to sea.
Please remember that every little bit helps, every dollar will MAKE A
DIFFERENCE, and these communities really need us right now.
