Brian Beck will be starting a two-part talk on "Ingredients for a
Python DSL". This month he'll cover deferred expressions and the
builder pattern. He'll finish the topic at November's meeting by
discussing metaclasses and descriptors. This should be a great talk
for anyone interested in DSLs. Brian has been in the guts of
SQLAlchemy, which uses all of these techniques, and has created DSLs
for commercial work.
Brian says: "if you've ever heard the terms 'declarative' and
'generative' and you want to know how to do those in Python, this is
the talk for you."
As usual, I encourage everyone to bring along any little things you'd
like to show off or talk about. We'll probably have time after Brian's
talk for pseudo-lightning-talks.
There will be pizza, pop, and beer. As usual, beer donations are
welcome. If you're coming, please respond to this email so we know
how much food to get.
See you there!
