Wiring
It just dawned on me looking at the wiring in the garage. I may have 220 out there already: there is an end of the three wire insulated cable coming from the house. Two wires taped and one bare. If I took a photo, could anybody tell? Also, how could I test to be sure? Thanks,... more »

Craftmanship at the union of man and the rest of nature.
I am nearing the end of a year's subscription to Orion magazine.  I'm not sure that I will renew. But, the online version of the magazine features an interesting video that I felt worth passing on. Stone River: The Passion of Jon Piasecki An Orion original video... more »

Pot From Craig's Anagama. Thanks Craig!
They got the flu going around Craig's neighborhood, so I haven't been over since we fired. But Craig sent me some photos of some of my pots. I include one as an attachment. It is unglazed except for flyash and flashing. Continental Woodfire Porcelain with custer feldspar stone inclusions.... more »

Strawberry Lake Red
Hay Folks, No, I don't mean some weed from the sixties, but more than a few of the local stoners had told me about a couple different clay spots in town so I took Olof on a walk to find one at Strawberry Lake in Norway. My buddy Peter Hayes' Mom Ruth gave the land to the city for a park. Olof was a bit much to handle on a clay hunt so the sample I got was just a COLD handful I stuck in an Arbys sack, about 750g. I couldn't put my glove back on so we headed back to the truck and passed 3 elderly women with the sack, the dog, and my hand covered in redish brown clay. All I could say was "Gee, I wish they weren't so serious about cleaning up after my dog." Waha, I thought it was funny anyway...... more »

Musing on Coffee
A random moment of humorous curiosity came up... I was staging some pots to go out to the kiln early in the morning. Stopped to take a break and stoke the fireplace (5 degrees F this morning) and managed to spill some coffee on a glazed pot. The coffee has dried, leaving a bit of brown stain in the glaze. I know most of it will burn out, but I wonder what will be left?!... more »
