Hay Folks,

Oh that smell of Jordan in the morning. I found a 5lb. bag of Jordan, probably from the 70's, and added about half to about 25lbs. of my throwing slop made up of ^10 stoneware, some of my flabby Rhodes porcelain, a good bit of the Rovin RO-99 Porcelain. There might still be some of the fireclay lag I think got mixed in but that could have also been some leftover Western Michigan University studio stoneware. I see by itself it will make pots that can fire to ^6. I think I recall using Jordan in stoneware bodies way back when but wonder if this is going to lower my working temperature because I'm making stuff for the front of the chamber at the throat arch which could get to ^12 or more if I'm not careful. Any idea if I'll loose refractory properties with this addition? I can always set it aside and use it in the tail of the next load where it will be cooler if it might melt. Or I can mix the 28½lbs. in with all the other scrap and thin the Jordan
proportion so it does not have much effect other than adding plasticity.
