Hay Folks,

YouTube happened to be doing maintenance when this went up and got stalled in processing for a day so I reloaded...

It is getting below freezing now, not bitter if I'd break down and buy some new Carhearts, and I set a fire in the pignose day before yesterday to warm off the chill and the Bourry box is still about a hundred ten and the chamber reads higher than when cold so I'm getting up the gumption to go out and continue loading. The temperature in the rafters is 77ºF & humidity 20% (as low as the meter reads) maybe lower, and outside humidity is more than twice that so I don't think there is much chance of moisture in the pots freezing. We had something of a discussion of loading in the cold in the past and now that I've ended up doing it again I might as well throw out the data as we go and see what happens. I've thought of putting an electric heater in there but that would end up costing a lot in electric so any other thoughts on how to be certain pots don't freeze if if you too are a slow poke at loading in the cold would be welcome. The next full moon is at
the end of the month so I could wait till then to fire but there is no guarantee of clear weather for cool photos so I'm just gonna keep moving ahead and fire when the chamber is full, could be next week or two too so stay in there eh!

Hey Gary put a couple of candles in the chamber it will stop it from freezing! This was the Korean technique. I think the temp was something like 70F in the AM

bill in sebastopol where it never freezes in the kiln

Bill, that's pretty weird because just that thought came to me in the past for the prototype Hobagama and nothing froze...

I hope I didn't break my BBQ thermometer so soon because it still reads warm and same for the pyrometers. Guess I better get out there and unbrick the door and continue loading. If I get cold I can set a small can of charcoal and put in the styrofoam door to take a break. One can in the chamber won't melt the door but a fire in the pignose will.
