Well if anyone is around I hope you are having a safe holiday time and don't get too hungover. I didn't go anywhere cause I'm learning to stay at home but Mom liked her stuffed Christmas Bears and the kids liked the money I sent so I guess it's been good enough. I'm still making pieces to fill the front part of the Hobagama so we probably won't be firing on New Years but I did manage to edit some footage about practicing lighting the pignose to warm the chamber and keep things from freezing last month...

Each time I practice making this fire I get a little quicker so when I'm ready keeping the fire going up to temperature should naturally flow into the process. I'll probably show this part of using a low heat fire to dry things a couple more times to maintain continuity so bear with me cause I want to get a good feel for how this thing works before taking it for a long ride. I think I have about half an hour more footage about this part of the setting and then we get closer to real time as in the stills at the bottom of this page...

Since it's staying cold out there using the Pentax Optio W30 or JVC GZ MG-130 is gonna get stressful on them so I took a look at what progress Pentax is making with their Optio W series underwater compact cameras and found the W80 on sale so I ordered one with an extra battery. This model is not only waterproof to 15' deep, shock proof to 3', and 12mp, it is cold proof and good to go down to 14ºF so I can keep filming the kiln even if it is cold out. The HD video can be in 16x9 format too so it will blend together better with the JVC. I can still insert a 4x3 screen in screen from the W30 with AVS4you so it will be cool to have two cameras on the same beam and a third camera angle. And that 12mp stills is gonna make for some huge shots of trout holes in Pine Creek. Just stick the camera on a mono-pod, set it for interval, and stick it in a hole for a couple hours. If I scare a fish out it will be back if the water sets for a while, unless I eat it.
Well thanks for watching this kiln get built folks, have a couple few three or four holiday brews for me, smoke it if ya grew it, and stay in there till next year eh!
