Complaining neighbours about loud music

Anyone here have problems with neighbours complaining about loud
music?

I have a guy living downstairs who moans during sociable hours (even
Friday/Saturday nights). He's a young guy in his 20s, doesn't seem to
go out much, doesn't work night shifts. Funny enough none of the other
neighbours have a problem with me and have never complained, surely if
it was so loud they would all complain. Indeed one couple next door to
me often have music playing on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon,
no loud but I can hear it perfectly. Though it has been so loud in the
past that I've not heard the door buzzer or my phone go. The only
thing I have on him is that he has a washing machine that shakes my
flat.

I dunno, maybe I am a neighbour from hell but I've been perfectly
accommodating and turned it down on several requests over the last 4
months, and gone through days and weeks of having no problems but just
in the last two weeks he's getting really pissed off. Maybe because
I've just been ignoring him, but that's resulted in him threatening to
complain to my landlord.
naturally I don't wanna get an ASBO but it's just a bit of a kill
joy. It just seems to me that us rock fans seems to get singled out
more than most. OK so trying to recreate a Motorhead gig in an old
tenement flat in Glasgow is a bit inappropriate. But can you do
classic rock justice at a low volume?

I'm fortunate that I have great neighbours and a good insulation
accoustically.

However I do also use wireless head phones which are great for Rock
music. Try it, you might be pleasantly suprised. So might your
neighbour ! lol

Let him complain. It's an environmental health issue and they will attend
and monitor your noise levels if it's that bad. Why not have a word with the
other neighbours to see if they find it loud or not.

Noise pollution can be a problem but if this arse is complaining over
nothing then just ignore him.

For info there is no set time that loud music has to be turned down by, that
is an urban myth, but natch, you don't want to be pissing people off by
playing it at 4am.

Some people just complain for the sake of it

i moved apartments this May after spending a year with a single mum
with a 9 year old brat living upstairs. the kid would insist on
slamming the front door as hard as possible before stomping up the
stairs like an elephant on a 10 yard sprint. the single mum suffered
from insomnia so when she got up at around 3am she would spend the
next 2 or 3 hours tidying,washing,etc - and walking around on very
creaky floorboards.

i resorted to blasting out Rammstein at a lound volume every morning
at around 6am !

but it does suck. I cannot begin to tell you how much better life is
after moving.

Having noisy neighbours is a pretty shit existence. If you really are
noisy, take Woody’s advice and get some cans then you can bang your
head all day long. Ask your other neighbours what they really think.
If they give you the thumbs down, try to be a good neighbour, one day
it will pay its just rewards.

However if it is just one intolerant t&^t then I suggest a little play
of the new WASP album played at 11 out of 10 or the Slade Christmas
album with some added lunatic dancing for good measure, that should
cheer him up – not!

I am pretty fortunate in that one of my neighbours is a truck driver
and is only home one day a week and the others are rock fans with two
young kids/ babies. They are more interested in what I play rather
than how loud it is. Having said that I am a good neighbour and if I
get a complaint I do turn it down a tad.

Thanks for the tips folks. I've actually decided to see if he has a
sense of humour, by posting a Xmas present through his letter box, ear
plugs!

I hate second hand music also but I know what is an unacceptable
volume, and never exceed that. I have spoken to my other neighbours
and they don't have a problem with me. And I feel been quite
accommodating to the guy downstairs, turned it down when requested but
he seems to persist over nothing and a bit touchy over the whole
affair, and the last tenants in that flat never had a problem with me
either and I've been here for 3 years, he only moved in about 6 months
ago.

Still I could do with moving into the countryside where I have no neighbours!
