I notice in the article that one of the reasons they've been awarded
it is for charity work. Glad to hear it, I don't hold with dishing
out honours to celebrities just for being famous.

If they've paid their taxes and done something unique that's all that
matters. Usually there is a charity link to these honors. Sir Mick
Jagger deserved his knighthood for music as he is the most durable
icon of the 1960s.
Though I've never quite understood the reason behind Trevor
MacDonald's knighthood.

Sorry Andrew, I have to disagree with you there mate. Doing something
unique doesn't deserve being honoured by the country if you've been
paid a boat load of cash for doing it in my book. Mick Jagger is an
excellent example of my point - he hasn't paid tax in this country for
some time, as he doesn't spend enough time in the country to have to
pay it. I seem to recall his knighthood was awarded "for services to
music". What a load of tosh - yes, he may have been an inspiration to
others but at the same time, he's been paid a huge wedge while doing
it.

Now, if you want an example of a celebrity who deserved an honour, you
need look no further than Sir Ian Botham. He was knighted for
services to charity because he has raised something like £15 million
for leukaemia research during the last 25 years, mainly through the 13
walks he's done from John O'Groats to Lands End. Before he did his
first one, survival rates for the disease were around the 20% mark,
these days it's closer to 80%. Now if Rick and Francis have been made
OBE's for charity work, then fair play to them and congratulations.
