It is with great pleasure that the Departments of Architecture and of
City and Regional Planning at the University of California Berkeley
would like to invite you to the symposium: "Bogotá: Lecciones de un
Renacer". The event focuses on Bogotá's urban and social
transformations, and showcases the exhibit“Bogotá, el Renacer de una
Ciudad” from the 2006 Venice Architecture Bienniale, which helped
garner the Leon d’Oro in recognition of the city's recent renaissance.
The symposium will run for two (2) days, Friday October 3rd and
Saturday October 4th, and is centered around a keynote address by
former mayor Enrique Peñalosa.

Other guest speakers include Architect Daniel Bermúdez (who will give
a lunchtime lecture on Friday) Ambassador to the US Carolina Barco,
planner Camilo Santamaría, Former director of the Colombian Studies
Program at Georgetown and urban consultant to Bogotá and Medellín
Gerard Martin, USC Assistant Professor of Architecture Rachel Berney,
as well as UC Berkeley Faculty members.

As well as the Departments of Architecture And City Planning, the
symposium is sponsored by The Institute of Urban and Regional
Development, the Program in the Design of Urban Places (Masters of
Urban Design), the Center for Latin American Studies, Berkeley-
Stanford CityGroup, The UC Transportation Center and the Program in
Global Metropolitan Studies
