Yeah. So like, you know who we are. But a stranger wouldn't say OMG a technomage!
So that's why Bethany will be wearing a megacorp business suit, and a hidden staff - she can turn it into a briefcase. I dont know what the guys are wearing!

So my only comment on this is that the "Technomages being in disguise" thing seems to fill one of two categories. 1) A game detail that doesn't matter at all. i.e. All action takes place in an isolated area where Technomages are NOT in disguise, but theoretically when they go out they are. This begs the question "why is this cool and why does it matter."
2) A kludgy inconvenience that just presents an obstacle to roleplay..."oh well there are cast here so we aren't supposed to be technomages."
So...all that said, I don't think it MATTERS very much. It doesn't at all fit the Babylon 5 ethos Andy has been projecting which is why it caught my eye, though maybe somebody can relate it.
Might it be worth asking the PC technomages if they think this is cool and want to sustain it as part of the ethos or ditch it? Just a suggestion. I don't think there's any reason to sustain it because somebody once said it was so.

Yeah, I got the impression that the disguises weren't even very good, and was OOC mostly to surprise the JET folk who aren't going to be fooled "oh hey Winter is wearing... pink?"
However it should prolly be leaked to the main list so that people don't think y'all are casting.

Okay. Let me put one more thing forward here. There is also the part where this becomes "the NPCs are all idiots" and that strikes me as uncool.
If Archibald is one of the most important people around, even if he's not addressed that way, nobody woud NOT know that, unless there were great efforts to keep it a secret.
I'm not averse in principle to saying that the CoG exists in a nutty wackyland where ordinary people behave like imbeciles and don't realize things like "that guy everybody is talking to is Archibald"
But....I think that belittles the cast characters and Midwesterners we're writing.
I think on the disguise thing coming up with some sort of consistent statement on how it exists, how it works and how it is and isn't implemented rises above the "just hand wave it" level and becomes something people need to know to write cast for the game. I know I do. I don't feel like writing a holler boss who is too stupid to realize that the physical description of Archibald matches the important guy in the sombrero...
I think this is worth getting some sort of uniform concept together on...

Be who you are and say what you feel...because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. -Dr. Seuss
Maybe the cultists are more powerful than I thought.
I was IN a scene. That the cultists were morons. Seriously. I was standing right there. "Technomages are evil, kill her." And grayer stopped them. They were like "OK" That's my only encounter.
So yes, I'm assuming we wear it just so we can walk around the city and not be a famous target, but people who are supposed to be there would know who we are.

Also - I was not aware that people knew that the technosphere was still involved in engineering the project. I imagine the city of glass being so huge, that no would would really notice or care who engineered the hypertech, and oversaw the project that got them put in correctly.
I guess, that's why we have to talk, so we all have the same vision.

What we have here is genre clash. There are cute funny scenes and stupid cultists. There are writers who told players to go ahead and do this cute funny thing.
I don't think we need to make ourselves crazy here. Gordon, your Holla Boss will recognize Archibald unless there's a reason he shouldn't. Mind you, there is no television, very few photographs, and word of mouth descriptions are infamously inaccurate. Arguably, most people recognize Technomages as the guy what doesn't have shit all over him.

I think, as Carolyn says, its not that all cast are morons. Its that the anti-Technomage cultists are morons.
Sad to say, but this seems pretty consistent with the way Kammer and others have written them. I was in the scene where they burnt a hub at the PPOC game, and I didn't get the impression they were real smart. I mean, they didn't seem to know who among the CCs were Technmages, even with Gray leading them.
I think this is a compromise that allows the TS players to have their fun but not make, say, the Holla bosses be morons. Only the cultists are fooled by the disguises.
That said, I'm not sure how much, say, Archibald's description has been circulated in the PPOC. Of course, this means the disguise isn't strictly needed, but people do pretty silly things to avoid over-hyped dangers, which I think the cultists kinda are at this point.

Maybe I'm missing something, so I'm just going to write this out...
As far as I see, there are cultists who are trying to kill technomages. They aren't heavily involved in the creation of the CoG (since the TS is heavily involved in the creation adn I can only imagine that the security force would be trying to keep cultists out of an area created by that which they hate, yes?).
So, the technomages are moving about the CoG and are trying to not be OBVIOUSLY technomages, so they are wearing disguises that are simply "not technomage".
I assume that security (not being idiots) know who the PEOPLE who are coming into the CoG are including the technomages. This is simply trying to keep them from looking like TechnoMages(tm). (Taking it one step further- security could have a CoG person dressed as a "Technomage" trying to draw out threats).
What does this mean for game- the technomages are accustomed to moving about the CoG in these disguises for the sake of not asking for trouble. The trusted NPCs, the folks who have the security clearance to be hanging out with the JET and who use their noggins will be able to realise who these people must be (if they go around asking for names security might be concerned <g>). As for PCs being able to recognise them...JET members wear namebadges, in order to have full access, yes? It shouldn't be an issue <g>. I think it will be funny.
I may have missed something- please let me know if I'm totally off base. -D

Well, people like Sykes (and therefore ENY) knew it because Archibald told him. There was talk earlier about locals who hate nanites, etc. They were mostly seen as angry drunks. I noticed because someone said they liked Sykes.
Sykes has always opposed both the supernatural AND nanites. His general level of success is VERY mixed.
