post forwarded, with permission, on behalf of dugg and chris... thanks
for the info dugg.
1. No experience with St. John in October to late November. October
would be the very
end of the hurricane season. You might want to look at the list of
restaurant closings, however, at :
www.stjohnspice.com/stjohnrestaurants.htm.
2. Don’t know about rental coolers, but ice is available at the
‘store’ at Cinnamon Bay.
3. Restaurant favorites are very much a matter of personal taste
(and budget). You might skip the expensive ones (e.g. Asolare) for
the latter reason. Our favorites are (1) Margarita Phil’s in Cruz
Bay, (2) The Lime Inn in Cruz Bay (all-you-can eat shrimp Wed night
Sat night Prime Ribs ), (3) Quiet Mon Pub (Irish pub, with Sloppy Joes
& hot dogs - and, occasionally, Kenny Chesney), (4) Island Blues
Seaside Bar and Grill (reopened, in Coral Bay, favorite of the locals
of the Woodstock Nation), (5) Miss Lucy's Restaurant & Bar (at Friis
Bay, south of Coral Bay - callaloo to die for and a jazz brunch on
Sunday), (6) Chateau Bordeaux (expensive but worth it, suppers only -
by candle-light and overlooking Coral Bay from Bordeaux Mountain on
Centerline Road).
4. Scooters???
5. Have used several and never missed - we have used Cool Breeze,
Hertz, Denzil Clyne, Varlack, Conrad Sutton and Courtesy. Several of
these let you use their lot for parking - a BIG problem in Cruz Bay!
6. Never heard of a security problem (you can only tie the tents
shut, although the cottages have locks). The only thing we have heard
of (in Frommer’s) was pickpockets at Trunk Bay, heavily used by cruise
ship passengers from St. Thomas.
Peace
