Stephen Monteiro teaches in the Department of Global Communications at The American University of Paris, where he directs the Graduate Track in Visual and Material Culture Studies. 

He has written on media, art, and aesthetics for Grey Room, Photography & Culture, Kritische Berichte and Visual Resources.
