This Scala course from the creator of the language, Martin Odersky, is being offered again free next month. A couple folks took it in the fall and recommend it (Creighton, Geoff, BenK).

Learn about functional programming, and how it can be effectively combined with object-oriented programming. Gain practice in writing clean functional code, using the Scala programming language

Reminder: this course starts up on Monday. Several of us are signed up and may do an informal study group of some kind. I'll probably buy Odersky's book or maybe Scala for the Impatient.

FYI,  Oreilly Safari has the scala books.  I must confess, I do most of my reading on Safari. it saves lugging books around.
