Hi all,

I left the house around 10 this morning and headed towards the Illinois River to look for waterbirds.  I initially spotted a Western/Clark's type grebe ~1000 yards away on Upper Peoria Lake from private property around noon.  It was swimming south at a nice clip so I headed down to the Dolphin Cove Restaurant.  By 1:00 pm it was less than ~150 yards from the end of the levee at Dolphin Cove in good light.  From here I was able to identify it as a Western Grebe based on the amount of black below and in front of the eye and the dusky yellow bill.  I wouldn't consider this bird very chasable due to a lack of publicly accessible viewing spots.  If you're interested, I recommend the Dolphin Cove Restaurant or possibly the Spring Bay Fen Nature Preserve in the morning.  I'm not familiar with the Peoria (west) side of the river, but imagine there is some potential there in the afternoon and evening.  I was thinking this bird could move down to Lower Peoria Lake/East Port Marina area as well.  I've created below for anybody trying to relocate the birds.
