Welcome to the official community forum for the UCLA Center for Information as Evidence! This site is an opportunity for scholars, students, and those interested in the Center's activities from around the world to engage one another in an open discussion forum. Membership is open to the public, although we ask that you provide your name and professional or academic affiliation in the interest of building our international community.
With the development of new technologies and digital resources, it is critical that we understand the complexities involved with information management and analysis. CIE addresses the concept "information as evidence" as an ongoing process that considers the ways in which information objects and systems are created, used, and preserved as legal, administrative, scientific, social, cultural and historical evidence.
We invite you to consider this site as a virtual extension of the Center, one in which you are free to engage one another on issues related to some of the Center's activities, including its Interdisciplinarity and Information series. In our Discussions section, each month we will post one or two exploratory questions and we invite you to participate by adding your own thoughts, experiences, or discoveries generated through your own work and personal endeavors. You will also find an Events and Opportunities discussion board where you can announce upcoming events, activities, job opportunities, request feedback on work, suggest future activities for the Center such as guest lectures or grant opportunities, or post a call to other members to collaborate on upcoming projects. We have also included a series of Pages sorted by general disciplines dedicated to building a working annotated bibliography of books, articles, websites, and other materials relevant to the Center's interests. Our In the News page is an opportunity to post articles that you come across either online or in the media.
If you would like to learn more about the Center, please visit our website: www.gseis.ucla.edu/cie. If you have any suggestions for topics you would like to see discussed, members you think should be invited to join, or improvements to this site, please contact Joshua Sternfeld: joshuas@ucla.edu.
CIE is dedicated to promoting the exploration of interdisciplinary inquiry in the academic and public sectors. Such an endeavor cannot continue without your participation, enthusiasm, and energy.
Sincerely,
Anne Gilliland, Director
Joshua Sternfeld, Associate Director
