PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE – UNION KITCHEN

PROPOSED OUTDOOR MARKET & BAR AT 3^rd & L NE

 

Union Kitchen, a commercial kitchen on Congress Street NE that serves many small local caterers, food trucks and others, is proposing an outdoor market & bar at the parking lot at the corner of 3^rd & L NE.  Their license hearing is scheduled for July 15^th, and ANC 6C will be discussing this application at upcoming meetings.

 

On Thursday, June 4, 2013 at 6 pm, the ANC 6C Alcoholic Beverage committee will meet with the business owner, Jonas Singer, to discuss hours, noise, trash pickup, and other issues.  There will not be any permanent buildings included in this business.  Meeting time is 6 pm at 700 2^nd Street NE (lobby of Kaiser).  The following week, the ANC will vote on this application on June 10^th at 7 pm at 214 Massachusetts Ave NE (lobby of Heritage Foundation).

As a follow up to next week's upcoming ANC meeting on Wednesday, the owners of Union Kitchen have agreed to meet this coming Tuesday, June 11th at 6pm with all surrounding/interested/concerned residents who have any issues/concerns with their proposed "Outdoor Market and Bar" at 3rd and L Streets NE. Accordingly, if you are concerned in any way about its scope--namely the proposed hours of operation (7 days a week, 6 of which they will be open until midnight) and/or the noise generated from the overall nature of their operations (i.e. live music/entertainment in an outdoor venue serving alcohol) then you should make it a point to be at this meeting and let your voice be heard. This is specifically important for all homeowners along 3rd Street NE as what they have proposed will likely transform the block from one that is relatively quiet to one that is an active hub of activity seven days a week.
