You are better off just renting a van or pickup and tossing the bike in the back.
It'll be much less hassle and more secure than dealing with a trailer. plus the only rental vehicles with hitches that i've ever come across are vans/pickup or full Sized SUVs.
Although if you are super crafty you can rent a car, buy a trailer hitch for said rental car, install it yourself. and be on your way.
then after your trip, remove the trailer hitch, return it to the store, get refund, and then return the rental car.
they usually don't check for holes drilled in the frame rails when you return a rental car.
I did this about 10 years ago when i wanted to bring my sailboat from Virginia to Chicago but didn't own a car.
it worked
out great but it was a bunch of extra hassle.
Just get a van
