Greetings everyone!

I have reserved tables for a Malifaux tournament at Games Plus on July 28th.

I wanted to ask everyone their opinion if I should run a 1st Edition tourney in preperation for Gen Con or the New 2nd Edition which will be released at Gen Con.

For those of you that may be unaware Malifaux is going through a revision and the new rules and models can be downloaded on the Wyrd forum at the following link;

The open beta will more than likely end this month so Wyrd can go to print in preperation for the Gen Con release. If there is greater interest for a 2nd edition tournament we would use the last files uploaded on the Wyrd forum for the rules.

Gen Con will also be the last official tournament using the 1st Edition rules and models. If you would rather have a practice tournament to get prepared for the Gen Con events let me know.

We will go with either a 1st or 2nd edition tournament on July 28th depending on your feedback. As soon as I know where the majority stands I will make the official posting on the Wyrd forum and then send everyone the link.

Thanks.

I would think that given there will likely be changes even after the beta goes away, 1.5 is the best option until the hard and fast rules come out. Plus there are more 1.5 events at gen con.

That was part of the reason I wanted to tailor the tournament to the majorities taste. Not everyone is going to Gen Con and even those that are may not participate in the 1st edition stuff since its outdated upon conclusion of the Convention.

Furthermore that are quite a few Chicago Area players that have been working on the 2nd Edition through Closed and Open Beta. I have seen several 2nd edition tournaments posted on the Wyrd forum.

As far as changes made once it goes to print once the Open Beta closes shouldl be very small. The rules are about locked in and there could be some last minute changes to a model here and there. I dont think it would be a waste of anyone's time to participate in a 2nd edition tourney even if it is held prior to official releases.

Mainly I just want a good turn out on July 28th regardless which edition we run. I am well versed on the 2nd edition rules anyway.

Keep the opinions coming.

I'd like to see 2E personally. But then again I won't be going to Gencon (boo).

Hi,
I'd like a 1.5 edition tournament because I do plan to participate in GenCon. However, I will still attend if it is 2.0.

Technically M2E isn't officially released till January.  It will be out at Gencon as a presale but not all models will be supported till January.

Personally since 1.5 is going away soon I would rather see more of those events since post Gencon it will all be 2E.  Plus its good prep for the people who are going to Gencon

Which reminds me I really need to get the rules pack together for that and write those story encounters.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: “The Lord of the Rings” and “Atlas Shrugged.” One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

I vote for 1.5.

M2E is a work in progress, and is not in a ready state, and even the final docs released for beta will likely not be the same as the finished product (just like the last few betas).

Its my birthday weekend so I’d like to think that I will have some say in what I am allowed to do and a tournament sounds fun. J

Personal preference would be 1.5 so that I am forced to finally open my Yin and Toshiro boxes and assemble them. J

Although I also think that a tournament of 2.0 might actually be an opportunity for lots of feedback to the beta test… So I guess I am cool either way.

Im in I dont care what we play. Beta is cool because I havent played too many games of it but 1.5 lets me play a wider array of models. Either way im in.
