One possible cause of this is that newer versions of QuickTime (and hence CLAN) seem to have become less permissive in the range of sound file types they allow. Why don't you send me a copy of your sound file and I can try to replicate the problem? Also, you could try to modify the sound file format to see if that helps. Can QuickTime play the sound file directly outside of CLAN?

This error message means that CLAN can't either find media file or your PC is missing a winmm.dll. Make sure that media file name on @Media tier matches actual media file name minus file extension. Also, make sure that file extension is .wav for wave encoded media file. If your PC is missing winmm.dll, then install Microsoft Windows Media Player. CLAN doesn't use quicktime for audio media.

I confirm that the presence of a non ascii characters in the directory
name of the working file (wherever in the hierarchy) prevents CLAN from
playing correctly videos (didn't know about sounds) under Windows. I got
the habit of saying to my students nether to do that.
