Found this link while perusing Reddit.

http://marinetraffic.com/ais/

It's a flight tracker for boats. After checking Lake Michigan however
there doesn't appear to be a lot of boat activity so perhaps this site
isn't getting all the data.

Or maybe it is because most boats do not fly at night.

I have that one bookmarked! It is absolutely staggering how many
millions of tons of shipping are sailing on the briny bonny blue.

I have another site bookmarked at work, very similar to this, that
tracks pirate activity. Very instructive.

Also have a few sites to ship brokers. You would be absolutely amazed
at what you could buy, for cheap.

If you could scrape up a mere million dollars, you could buy and rehab
something and have an abfab awesome giant yacht. A couple of hundred $K
will get you an ocean capable ship. Buy used, not new.

I'd like that URL.

People we used to know bought an ocean-going tug and have had it being
refurbished for several years now. They used to live aboard a sailboat
before they had their kids -- now they're getting ready for retirement
and world cruising.

Aaargh. There's piracy on the Great Lakes?

I recall, back in the days of being an up and coming impressionable
youngster, a fairly well off parent of a friend who constantly used the
phrase: "Retail is for suckers." There's also the phrase: "The two best
days in a boat owner's life is the day he buys his boat and the day he
sells it."

What's the link to the cheap stuff? I'd like to buy a bulk shipment of
off-lease PCs for refurbishment but can't seem to find out where to go
about doing this.

There's another site i like: the Panama Canal Mira Flores locks. Live
webcam. Kind of funny to watch a few ships go through then suddenly a
cruise ship blows mass quantities of smoke and churns a 20' rooster tail
as they realize they're about to hit the quay. Plus it's warmer in
Panama.

My guess the damage is a flyspeck compared to the shit we
are allowing the BP refinery in NW Indiana to toss in the
lake...

Didn't the lake used to be lousy with coal-fired steamers?

so? I reject this reasoning. The BP refinery should be shut down too and
has zero bearing on the fact that the badger shouldn't be allowed to dump
into the lake
