That was the slogan the Brits had while bombs fell on them during World
War II. Now we're less than a day into this tragedy and the Chicago
Tribune sports an article with a photo of a security goon with an
untrained dog in some Red Line subway station as perhaps a look into our
future. What we really need is TSA to protect every summer event. We
also need three more aircraft carriers and a couple dozen F-35s to
deliver us from this evil.

Boston marathon explosion could reshape security at Illinois events

Officials will look closely at blast to see if safety procedures should

Ban gym bags.

Hell, ban every type of bag in public. "If it saves one life." Let
people use giant rubberbands to hold their papers. Or the type of book
strap Timmy used on Lassie.

But what about laptops and tablets, I hear you ask.

Imagine them filled with explosives, I say.

In fact, this might not have been an ordinary explosive blast, but a
bunch of lithium ion batteries.

I was wondering which of our regulars would be the first to post bitchy-
whiny posts about this event in order to make it all about them. You guys
led the list.

I generally carry a dilapidated commuter bag to hide the fact that
inside is an expensive camera and lens. I do not want to ever have to
deal with goons and expose all the expensive goodies inside to
neerdowell passersby. The pic in the above linked article shows a
security guard holding back a dog blindly barking at an entire subway
train. This dog is not trained and most likely its handler isn't as
well. Give these people any kind of stop and search powers because they
have some "hunch" and it won't be good for anyone.

It appears 4chan has a think tank and they're doing their own
investigation. Quite fascinating.

I always thought it would be a good idea for the Chicago Police to put
all their blue light and other surveillance cameras online live to let
the Internet crowd source observing them.

I found it interesting/ironic 4chan attempting to do a good deed even
though most of their "suspects" have been ruled out by their own photo
collection. You have to give them credit for effort. Perhaps one day
when something like this happens the Internet crowd sourcing through the
proliferation of cameras will discover the culprits before the police
do.

Lol. still complaining about the government you want not doing things
the way you want them done.

A police dog is just another theater prop regardless of how well trained
it is. The dog helps set the scene, create the right perceptions. That's
what it is there for first and foremost. To legitimize whatever the cops
want to do anyway. They even tell us that only 'trained' cops can know
if the dog 'alerted' or not. So who cares if it's some cop's house pet?
It does what's needed of it. You trust the police, so what's the
problem?

the majority of K-9 units in Cook County are trained incompetently. The

Dogs like me. Even dogs that don't like other people often do.

However, how police use dogs and the law surrounding it makes it
effectively nothing more than theater.

Obviously your friend doesn't either tell you about making a dog false
alert or your friend doesn't exist. It's well known how a handler can
make a dog alert.

Meanwhile court decisions and statistics show otherwise.

Can't explain the bogus alerts eh?

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-01-06/news/ct-met-canine-officers-20110105_1_drug-sniffing-dogs-alex-rothacker-drug-dog

"The dog teams are not held to any statutory standard of performance in
Illinois or most other states, experts and dog handlers said, though
private groups offer certification for the canines."

and

"Rothacker, who trained dogs for both Naperville and McHenry County,

Unless the dog is guarding a prison or concentration camp it should
never bark or act aggressively ever. That dog in the Trib pic is
straining his handlers leash which also should never happen with a
trained animal. Obviously you know very little about dogs.
