He gets busted....

Below is an excerpt from the trib article. Bears tackle J'Marcus Webb
was only doing 11 mph over but somehow police had to search his vehicle.
I really find it sad how so many black leaders are so pro drug war
completely ignoring the huge disparity in race in the ever growing
prison system because of shit like this. Where is the modern day Martin
Luther King to take on this issue? He was arrested somewhere down south
in hillbilly land -- possibly redneck hillbilly land.

BTW: The Bears truly need a tackle but not sure if this guy is any good.

After being pulled over near mile marker 16.5 at the tip of the state,
police found less that 2.5 grams of marijuana, Pilgram said, reading
from a police report.

He was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug

released on Monday, Pilgram said. Webb has a March 18 court date in
Pulaski County, Pilgram said. - See more at:

You might have mentioned the followup article, in which the prosecutor
dropped charges:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-jmarcus-webb-drug-charge-20130227,0,4768976.story

The State's Attorney dismissed the charges. Apparently he agrees with you
that the search was a civil rights violation. I don't know if the speeding
ticket was dismissed, too. That was probably legitimate.

That was awfully generous of them to drop "charges" for this horrific
crime. It helps to be somewhat famous and be able to generate press. I
have known a few potheads in my day who had way more than 2.5 grams of
pot stuck in their couch cushions.

Dropping charges in this case does not address the root cause of this
problem that happens every day in every backward county in this country.

I don't know of statistics on unconstitutional search and seizure in
that county, nor do you. However, if you think drug possession shouldn't
be a crime, that's not addressable at the county level.

That's the old excuse. It's not my problem black man, the law is the
law. You think Brian Urlacher would have had this problem for going
11mph over?

I like how the NFL has to now "respond" to this "incident" equating 2.5
grams of pot to PEDs like steroids. It's better to suck down Oxycontin,
developed by the finest chemical engineers big Pharma can hire, to ease
your pain black man than use a drug not approved by the FDA. Once you
let the black man smoke pot; next they'll want to sleep with your
daughters.

They searched the car looking for something that would be fineable, like
drug possession, so basically, anyone from out of town would have been
subject to the same hassle.

It may be pointless and ridiculous, but he signed a fucking contract
agreeing not to smoke dope or do other drugs. He's represented by a
lawyer and an agent, and he's overpaid, so if he has to give up the
niceties of life like not taking dope with him on a road trip, I just
don't give a fuck.

This is the stupidest fucking thing I've read all week. No where in the
article did it state one way or another the reasons behind the finding
of the pot. For all you know, he could have been smoking the pot when
the officer stopped him. It could have been lying out in plain view.
He could have acted like a total dick because he thought he was some
bigshot football player. He might have forgotten about it and told the
officer to go ahead and search the car. You know nothing.

What we do know, is you've jumped to the conclusions you have against
the law enforcement people in this particular county because of your
dislike for anything relating to your perceived imperfections of
"southern culture." This somehow raises your stature in life by
standing up for the poor black man. Forget the fact that this guy is a
multimillionaire. Just more whining about how bad white people are, and
america sucks.

Fuck off, dickhead. If the guy was smart enough to not drive around
with pot on him, he could have gotten his speeding ticket and been on
his merry way. As it was, your original post did say they had dropped
the charges, and that he was man enough to apologize to his fans and
friends for his stupidity. He accepted his wrong, but anderson blames
it on the cops. idiot.

You don't know that. What I read said the local prosecutor dropped the
charges. I took from it that he realized it wasn't that much, the guy
wasn't a dealer, and since he had acknowledged his error that perhaps it
was in everyone's interests to let it go. Nowhere did I read anything
about any complaints of an illegal search from either the football
player or the reporter. You're making that up.

incorrect. PED's are a suspension on the first offense. other drugs
(including pot) are 3 strikes/suspension, though the big downside for
J'Marcus is that the first strike means you can get tested at any time.
Without a first strike, there isn't testing between end of the season and
minicamp in April.

Making up shit, like you've done in this case, does nothing to help

knock yourself out. It has become normal to expect more reasonable
thought out of a dead stump than your phony ass. Go back and hide in

I know that he wasn't charged with driving under the influence, which he
would have been charged with if any aspect of your theory was correct,
that he was smoking pot or the pot was in plain view. If the latter, the
officer would have assumed he'd been smoking it very recently and would
have given him a sobriety test.

That's comparable to driving with liquor in the front seat. The law doesn't
want anything intoxicating being within reach of the driver. That's a
good law; I support it.

The football player knew enough to act as mellow as possible. He's been
trained by his publicist to issue immediate apologies. Football players
may even have ready apologies for battering women, 'cuz reputation management
is a science these days.

There was no reason to drop the charges if the search would have stood up
in court. The facts of the arrest, that he was found with drugs even if
the search was bad, were enough to ruin his reputation and establish that
he'd violated his contract.

Unless you know something about this prosecutor, that he doesn't pursue
charges for drug possession generally and doesn't look at it as an
opportunity to collect fines, I stand by what I wrote.

Sigh. Don't ever say "people of color", for that's racist. It suggests

Where did I say I "kowtow" to them? I give them the benefit of the
doubt in most situations I find myself in because they are a necessity
in our society, and for the most part I don't do shit to get in trouble
anymore. I'm all growed up and am not afraid of seeing police in either
my rear view mirror, or on foot at events I attend.

< to avoid getting my teeth knocked out" and we all understand

Nor did I say there hasn't been problems with law enforcement. I've
heard you participate in debates with Brent on some of the needs our
society has, and I believe having laws and a legal system is one of
them. My only issue in this whole thread has been to point out the
hypocrisy of Anderson's position. He wants to act all high and mighty
when he has zero for facts. In my view, starting shit like this
actually makes the situation worse, and not better. If there are no
facts supporting your agenda, don't start making them up. That is what
Anderson did, and I find it offensive.

That's because you're a white, middle-aged male, and even that's becoming
less and less a guarantee of protection from random badged violence.

To this point: they already have the badge, the gun, the nightstick, and
the authority to use them on you at their behest (yes, this is what Blennie
calls the "monopoly of legal violence"; well, he's parroting better people
on that but still, the point has legitimacy and stands).

Why do you feel they also deserve your willingness to give whatever horrid
actions they're perpetrating the best possible interpretation in terms of
intent is beyond me. They should have to justify to us what the fuck
they're up to and why.

How does going 11 mph over the limit result in a cop finding 2.5 grams
of pot? How do you envision that scenario playing out in your I-now-

I think this viewpoint is normal and held by a large segment of today's
populace. That does not make it honest to make shit up about them.

Wow. The only willingness I've made is the one that doesn't make up
shit. I expect them to be completely accountable, and answerable to the
same laws the rest of us are. There might have been something in this
arrest that was initiated by race. The known facts simply don't show
that. You are free to make any assumptions you like, I just prefer to
hear some details first.

You live out in the sticks, sticks, and it doesn't affect you.

The rising murder rate is a sick joke, so let's not kid ourselves on
the necessity of cops. They solve, what, 1/6 of them, and not even half
of those result in successful prosecution. I guess in a handful of
instances they have some impact on discouraging retaliatory murders,
but no much.

my reply was secret code for "Fuck you, I'm not falling for that one."

As far as living in the sticks, I do go to the city, and in fact the
wife would live there if she could get her way. If she can't drag me to
something, she finds someone else.
I also take offense at your statement that the murder rate doesn't
affect me since we all suffer when there are people in our society who
cannot live in relative safety from physical harm. Thinking that people
all over the country are not concerned about Chicago's murder rate is
silly. No one wants people to live like that.

Well, the guy was driving 76mph in a 65mph zone. Should law enforcement
enforce the law for all or should they ignore the famous and rich?

As to your racism charge;

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/17/17153.html
People QuickFacts Pulaski County Illinois
White persons, percent, 2011 (a) 64.9% 78.0%
Black persons, percent, 2011 (a) 32.3% 14.8%

If you go farther into the data, 1% of the white population comes off as
being white hispanic.

If we compare Pulaski county with Cook County we get;
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/17/17031.html
White persons, percent, 2011 (a) 66.0% 78.0%
Black persons, percent, 2011 (a) 25.0% 14.8%

If you go farther into the data, 23% of the white population comes off as
being white hispanic, but still Pulaski county has a larger African American
population by percentage than Cook County.

Anyway, Pulaski county has a much larger percentage mixed than most counties
in Illinois... take DuPage County for example at 82.4% white and 5.1% Black.

>BTW: The Bears truly need a tackle but not sure if this guy is any good.

I'm not convinced any drug user is a good idea for a team sport where his
performance directly affects the rest of the team.

At a minimum, addiction treatment and monitoring should be required.

Only in his own mind; gay people are no more or less rad than straights.
He failed solely because he's a hateful shithead who can't accept the
broad spectrum of human sexuality as the natural thing that it is,
because he loves to suck authority's dick and his authorities have told
him that being gay is bad for some dumb hateful reason.

Now, the anime habits? Yeah, that's where he failed as a parent.

Are you saying you fought the law and the law won?

I'm not seeing the issue here. Guy had drugs in his car, got pulled over for
speeding and got in trouble.

The cops I know say the state police will give you at most 10mph over the limit,
less if in a construction zone... he was over the limit which gave them every
right to pull him over. How they found the drugs I don't know (they may have
smelled it or thought something was odd about his behavior). Either way, they
did find it.

The funny part to me is Mark Andersen was so pro red light camera and trusting
authorities that this entire thread seems a complete turnaround making me
wonder if something recently happened to change his mind.

Well, my first assumption is he wasn't pulled over because of race.

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-02-27/sports/chi-bears-jmarcus-webb-drug-charge-20130227_1_bears-webb-drug-charges-confidential-drug-program

says he was pulled over on a Sunday night in February. There aren't lights on
I-57 in that area and it would be too dark for a police officer tracking
vehicle speed to see the driver at all, let alone determine his race as he
passes by at 65mph+.

Check your definition of night, sunrise and sunset along with the timeframe
to figure that one out yourself.

Again. We don't know if he acted in a way that drew attention to him during
the traffic stop or if he introduced himself as a Chicago Bears player hoping
to just give out an autograph and the officer took offense.

The story doesn't say, but it does indicate that he was pulled over for his
actions, rather than his race.

I wonder if the police car had video, but I suspect if it had, the trib or
one of the TV stations would have already aired it.

some statistics about race and moralizing that J'Marcus Webb had to
go to drug rehab for possessing an inconsequential amount of pot.

I understand the urge to jump on this but, as the article says

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-02-27/sports/chi-bears-jmarcus-webb-drug
-charge-20130227_1_bears-webb-drug-charges-confidential-drug-program

he was pulled over on a Sunday night in February. There aren't lights on
I-57 in that area and it would be too dark for a police officer to see the
driver, let alone determine his race as he passes by at 65mph+.

He was pulled over because of his speed. What happened afterwards is anyones
guess, but the initial stop was due to speed.

Also, I'm not sure I'd believe stats from the ACLU on drug usage.

Try http://www.samhsa.gov/data/nsduh/2k11results/nsduhresults2011.htm#Fig2-11

Somehow you have discerned that he was pulled over just for his speed as
if you have insight into what went on in those officers' minds and even
the situation as if you performed your own CSI on the area.

What I found funny however is your second sentence. The term "anyone's
guess" implies some tautology that would inspire grand debate over the
matter. How does a simple speeding ticket turn into one's car getting
ransacked? In the vernacular of the Angry Middle Aged White Man your
rhetoric is clear and unambiguous to other AMAWMs. Let me translate.
Anyone's guess (wink wink) means he was probably being an uppity nigger.
Unfortunately that kind of rhetoric doesn't play well in mixed company.
And don't get AMAWMs going on Political Correctness which forced all
this speech encryption in the first place.
