Inadvertently, an anniversary was omitted this
month. Congratulations to Joel and Betty (Perry) Ratliff who celebrated
their 11th wedding anniversary on July 2!
There will be a benefit fish fry for Jerry Fry on
Saturday, August 6 at 6:30. It will be held at the Paul Broyles Arena (2

to get treatments for his throat cancer. Jerry is a good friend, neighbor
and father. Bring your lawn chairs and come out to the fish fry. You
will have a good time and also be doing a good deed.
The Baptist Church will have a gospel revival.

Clyde (Skinny)
Estep celebrated his 89th birthday Friday, July 29, with family and
friends. He was served a birthday cake shaped like a baseball diamond with
a big baseball in the middle. Those helping him celebrate were his wife,
Elizabeth Estep, his children Barbara & Roddy Maddox and Gary & Pat
Estep, his granddaughter Angela Maddox and his two great grandsons Ross and Dean
Maddox, also his sister Floyce and her husband Leroy Slaughter, and his two
nieces Sue Ullevig and Linda Wilson. Many friends dropped by to help him
enjoy his cake and to watch him open his presents.
This past Thursday the
Cherokee CIA (Children in Action/ Baptist group) went to Sea World. (See photos
on Cherokee, Texas website) The day started early and everyone met up at the
church at 7:30am and began the ride to Sea World. After a brief stop in
Llano to pick up Janane and donuts they were back on the road and heading to Sea
World. The group talked, listened to music and drew pictures on the way.
When they arrived at Sea World they
split up into two groups. The first group consisted of Paul, Jennifer,
Jerry, Lara, Abby, McKenzie, Jamie, Phillip, Robby and Jeff. The second
group were the folks who liked to ride the roller coasters and included: Sara,
Gabriel, Janane, Ashley, Mr. Gott, Harrison, Coach Buffe and Michelle.
This group went to ride the Steel Eel, the Great White and the other great
rides. There was a little waiting in line but they were well worth the
wait!
Some of the shows the groups
attended were the Ski Show, the Shamu show, visiting with the dolphins and other
exhibits.
The group stopped and had supper at
McDonalds on the way home and arrived back in Cherokee a little
after 10pm. Everyone had an exhausting good time! Thank you to
Ashley Cockrum for the report.
