I have so far restrained from comment on your threads for various reasons. From reading a *lot of emails* from you it has occurred to me that you are
1) either trying to help entrepreneur and startups ecosystem or 2) Trying to make a site with a lot of trafic so you can mint some cash for creating no original content
For the case
2) I really have no comments - Just grab some rss feed and post of the blog you can even use this rss feed <http://friendfeed.com/startupnews> to grab a lot of startup feeds instead of pissing off so many people from each part of India. You will have a lot of content for Google ads.
If it is the case 1.
Why don't you donate www.opencoffeeclub.in to all the Indian OCC's so we can all have single site for communications, this can be shared with all the OCC's. Because It frankly does not make sense that you do all the hard work again which the Moderators of Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi have already done. You are a smart man, instead of bringing out so many people on to your site and trying to monetize the site, just donate the site and see how many people will think well of you.
OCC is full of some great hacker and you may not want to piss lot of smart people at the same time.
Hope this helps.

I don't mind to pay Rs 100/- towards membership charges. I hope other members will also follow suit. It can be used for site maintanance, meeting charges etc. Isn't it?
Moreover, existing member details from old Ning site cannot be transfered to the new site? Why everyone should register again?

That is very very kind of you, but you see we do not want to waste any
hard earned money of up-coming entrepreneurs in mis-management. Money
is the root cause of all the troubles and mis-understandings.
Only for this cause we have filed an application to convert OCC into a
non-profit charity organization whose main website will be www.opencoffeeclub.in and we are right now looking for the members of this charity
organization. The organization will move in the footsteps of NEN &
TIE.
We are also in talking terms of some companies who are willing to
provide some support to conduct regular seminars and workshops for
budding entrepreneurs.
I would also like to seek special support from the OCC moderators to
come forward and be the part of this charity organization as
directors. You see I am myself a budding businessman( I wont call
myself as entrepreneur- As I dont feel I have developed something
unique) and Also I am young so I also need some support and mentorship
to properly manage this organization and I am really thankful to all
you guys for such overhelmed response on our website and I am sure if
this continue we will surely succeed in our targets.
Immediately I need some people to be the moderators of the website as
this is really taking my so much of time and also to quickly arrange a
Open Coffee Club Meeting in Delhi with a contest for entrepreneurs and
startups.

Who owns this website and domain opencofeeclub.in Does this belog to an organisation or individual? What is its assoiciation with OCC in Chennai and other indian cities? How can we account for incomes and expense in a transparent manner? We need proper governance and procedures, not just promise. Please make sure that ownership and control always rests with elected office bearers, not any one particular individual .
Assuming that it is a official website, If it is just hosting and domain renewal expense then we can get annual sponsorship for that very easily. No need to run Google ads.
If it is not an official website then domain name should be renamed. Otherwise it will confuse and trick the members into thinking that it is official website.

I don't suppose anyone should have any problem with "Absolutely anyone" making money. But get this.... There is no way a group like OCC (all OCCs included) should encourage people using words like LOSERS to refer to the group.
I don't suppose it is a part of our education to be mean and call names to people. So watch it!! I would love to be petty and say - You are the person of whose company you keep.
Now would you be comfortable being called a Loser as well - Nishant?

As per SiteSnooper.com's Website Spy Report for the domain opencoffeeclub.inhere is the details:
*Name:* Nitin Naresh *Organization:* Global Concern *Phone:* +91.9911340135 *Email:* sonu_jhony_nitinnar...@yahoo.com *Website:* opencoffeeclub.in *Address:* Rz 1407, L-Block, Geetanjli Park, West Sagar Pur, New Delhi New Delhi Delhi 110046 IN
Even though mail server is used at opencoffeeclub.in itself but name server is used of ns1.swarnim.net which is the company of Nitin Naresh himself.
Doubt is about the organization since Organization name is mentioned "Global Concern"

Also their is not question of donating the website comes into the picture to some one individual when a legal entity as not profit organization is managing the website of itself and trying to establish the community at a central place.

Although I do not agree with many things you might say, however, I support you on creating a website and supporting the start-up eco system.
I will not question, your motive nor support your cause of funding for mobile developments, etc.
Group,
OCC was started by an individual who wanted to meet fellow entrepreneurs and it grew from there. That does not mean, there can not be more than one OCC in a place or city. More the number of OCC in a city or place, more options for entrepreneurs (like me) and more brain-storming and development possible. As it appears that many OCC wants to become the leader of "start-up community", it will give rise to competition and may improve the quality as well.
I have participated in many OCC over the world, and can say the above from my experience.
For those who think, it be turned into the hands of the community, no revenue, blah blah blah, OCC is not owned by any person, or community. Nor, is there a license or franchisee given to start the OCC. OCC is purely voluntary and can be hosted by any person who wants to meet up with fellow entrepreneurs. Currently, it is being controlled by few moderators, but with the growth, it will spread across to different places and houses.
To pay or not to pay, to attend or not to attend, to pay the fees or not to pay, etc is completely on the individual and I am no one to speak on behalf of the entire mass.
I would like to see more start up communities coming up with interesting view points. At the end, it is the spirit of entrepreneurship which has to be supported. If someone is doing any foul play, the junta is smart enough to write it off.
I would have stayed out of this discussion, however, seeing so many different view points being floated, I thought of putting in my 2 cents.
Thanks, Rashmi Ranjan Padhy

I think it is a good concept and probably offers lot more than either Ning or Google groups. It may be worth discussing whether we want to move to this site in one of the Chennai OCC meetings. Lots of free and/or open source alternatives exist like Drupal, Plone, Google Sites for community sites.

He since he put the name of the group along with .in domain ID shall we ask him to add /chn with the domain URL? Or we take up the initiative to ask every OCC in India to rally behind this website? I already rised the question about transferring the ning registration to the new site. Is it possible or we have to register as new?
Look forward your reply.

Why don't you all discuss it at the next OCC meeting in July. Vijay/Sid can collect opinions and make an informed decision. My biggest concern would be the security and privacy of email of all the members and how it will be used.

As I am again and again saying that this website is only for non-
profit purpose and I can assure you that no-data will ever be sold to
any one including the emails and contact details.
Secondly there will also be no-mailers for any sort of commercial
companies except our weekly newsletter for seeking the feedback,
upgradation of our services, website maintenance and downtime and also
addition of new features.
Third party mailer will only and only be for the OCC meeting sponsers
and companies willing to seriously supporting the entrepreneurs and
not just selling their stuff.

Members will always question the intentions. Why don't you donate everything to OCC. Code, domain, database and adsense account. That is the best way to prove that you care for occ On Jun 15, 2011 10:48 PM, "Nitin Naresh" <naresh.ni...@gmail.com> wrote:
Yes we do not have any legal structure but that should not come as an impediment. All the members here can elect a custodian by online voting / poll. Then we can hand over the control of domain name and webhost to that person. Perhaps it is you or some other active trusted member of this group who will get elected. It may be two instead of one. We can also ask custodian to promise to handover the domain name to anyone the group chooses at a later date for whatever reason. Personally I will trust people like Dorai, Sidhu, etc who are actively nurturing this group through various iinitiatives for a long time. It is just a suggestion to the problem of trust. Group can debate and select a similar or different solution. If we were to use the online voting methodology then we must have safegaurds against fake users and minority domination.

People own the government. People can change who is in charge of the government. What belongs to government belongs to the public also. This is different from some private company owning the roads and letting people use it for free, which is subject to whims and fancies of the private enterprise. We need a basic rudimentary form of goverrnance for the group website.
Please do not take it personally. I do not want to offend, hurt or discourage anyone. I am just suggesting this in the long term interest of the group.
