picking up a file from the local file system.

Hi all,

I have a menu bar on the homepage of my application. Each of the menu
item (link button) should correspond to a doc file/pdf located in the
local file system. On click of the menu item, the doc/pdf should be
displayed on a text box which is below it. The dispalyed doc file must
be also be in downloadable form... Does anybody have an idea on how to
achieve this?
Any inputs in this regard is of immense help.
