No matter where you were born or where you went to high school, if you're here, you're local. Over the next five months, we're celebrating just that: what being local means in New Orleans. Each month we'll issue a different Be Local challenge, and offer a different crazy fun local reward. It all revolves around you and showing the world your investment in the city that you love.

Each month 504ward will reveal a Be Local challenge. Accept it, and you'll get invited to the corresponding celebration, which will change type, theme, and giveaways each month. It's all free, and it all leads up to the biggest celebration of them all, our 5th birthday party at Tipitina's in the fall.

We're starting easy with this month's challenge: claim the 504 for real, by getting a 504 phone number. Why? Because when you give your digits to that that gorgeous so-and-so you've been stalking or that company you've been dying to join, your 504 says "I'm local." (Also, not to get all narcissistic on you, but these emails ain't comin' from 512ward.)

Up for the challenge? Let us know. You'll have two weeks to get a 504 number if you don't have one already. Your reward? We'll throw you the best kind of 504 party: a free outdoor crawfish boil. You give us your digits, we text you the secret boil location. To your 504 cell, of course.
