Chandor sets new precedent in Goa

HERALD REPORTER

MARGAO, FEB 13 - Chandor - the capital of the Kadambas in the 11th
century - set a new precedent for the state in becoming the first
village to release a people's plan for development.

The plan, titled Chandor Ganv Vhodd Zaum offers a roadmap for
development in the village over the next five years and covers all
aspects of life of the village, including its economy, infrastructure,
amenities and social structure.

The plan was prepared by the Chandor Development Forum over a period
of six months after holding meetings in every ward of the village to
elicit the people's views and aspirations, and all the suggestions
made by the villagers have been incorporated in the plan.

Fr Caetano D'Costa, former president of the Diocesan Board of
Education, released the plan in the presence of representatives of the
Goa Bachao Abhiyan.

Patricia Pinto urged the villagers to stay united and carry forward
the good work already begun.

Sabina Martins assured the villagers that the GBA would incorporate
some of the Chandor plan ideas in the Goa Regional Plan that the
Abhiyan was preparing to replace the withdrawn Regional Plan 2011.
