Mesa update
Mesa-8.0.3 is in staging x86_64, this group needed newer libdrm (minimal 2.4.30), I choose 2.4.33, about 2 months out, no bug reports I could find. With this new mesa a lot of older packages are no longer included, one new is added. svga-dri, useful for virtual machines. I will check if further rebuilds are needed before this moves to testing.... more »

libnl version
After the discussion yesterday in IRC which included how to handle core packages in ccr and was brought on by libnl, I'd like to warn about switching to libnl 3 too soon. Just bc Arch made it default, does not mean it is ready for many packages. Libvirt is what brought the whole discussion on, and exactly that package will not compile with libnl 3,... more »

Pulseaudi/systemd
To slowly work on more support/integration of systemd into the Chakra repo's, it probably would be good to get pulseaudio build with systemd support now too, while the whole new sound stack is in testing. Issue is that adding systemd to the deps would force it onto all users. If it would be ok to split system into libsystemd and systemd, imo would be a cleaner... more »

miniBackup
So I'm in the process of porting miniBackup to C++/Qt/KDE, and I realized that with the direction that I want to take it, miniBackup will no longer be 'mini'. (I will get into my future plans some other time) I played with the idea of simply renaming miniBackup to ChakraBackup (since that is what the app is called internally anyway), but I realized that there is nothing stopping the app from being used on other distributions so it shouldn't be given a distribution-specific name.... more »

Sound stack update started
The every 3-4 months sound-stack update is underway. All build packages will be in staging, until the whole group is complete. This will include latest ffmpeg & pulseaudio (and any of the 75 packages that have updates since February).

Kernel version
Seems to be a good time to discuss which kernel version to use in the 3-4 months kernel cycle, a new kernel should start in testing in about 2-3 weeks. With the latest toolchain the decision was made to go with all the latest, that way the tc is not so outdated once the 6 months cycle for it is up.... more »

Broken ISO's/bundles issue
All the updates from the last few weeks are too much for the Archimedes-2012.04 ISO. Getting bundles in live-mode results in either glib2/gtk errors or unable to mount errors due to new gcc/glibc. This effects only the updated bundles ofc, old bundles are still fine, but the most widely used bundles (firefox, chrome/chromium, gimp) are updated the... more »

Core package updates sqlite3/unixodbc
This is part of the previous 'gdbm' group, but no update needed for gdbm. It will be a first .so change for unixodbc, so a lot of rebuilds will be needed in platform and desktop.

aur2ccr dangers
From the start of the addition of aur2ccr, I had quite some fears of what could happen by using such a helper. Unfortunately, those fears have come true, and then some. One big disadvantage I saw from the beginning is that how can someone maintain a package properly in ccr, if they don't even know how to get an... more »
