Subject: [kernel26] The fun goes on.

Hi there,

Steven just mailed me that the fun will go on.
With 2.6.36 out and hopefully intel fixed the fun goes one with nvidia.

Now this driver - the new 260-series - give some old chips troubles.
Steven is on to backport the 256 to the new kernel series.

Liquorix patches are just snapshots of the zen project where Steven is the
lead maintainer now.

Yesterday for example I fixed a problem he missed.
When we want to have a feature rich kernel with speed for desktop pcs I think
working with Steven is perfect.

This means we will use his patches and work with them as good as possible.
There might be a little delay when the patches come out but we will have a
working stable environment which makes our distro even better.

greez

Phil

I'll be working on it this weekend.  The Liquorix patches are just
snapshots from zen-stable (which I'm now essentially the primary
maintainer), and everyone has been on vacation, studying, or just
ignoring the project.  However, it'll take some time to make sure all
patches work on 2.6.36 and to also find the newest code of each
feature.

To make things more difficult, nVidia decided to break panel detection
on my laptop with their newest driver series... this makes it
impossible for me to test 2.6.36 without significantly reducing the
functionality of my laptop.  I'll be looking around for a patch that
allows their 256.53 driver to run on 2.6.36.

Well it is more fun now. Here some FAQs:

1) The ioctl ops in struct file_operations is deprecated on 2.6.36.
We need to convert it to unlocked_ioctl ops. So some drivers like catalyst,
nvidia and co don't work yet.

2) Aufs2 is not ported yet to 36-series, so no livecd can use this new kernel

3) We have to find a way to get it working ...

You can try the new pkgs as they come from this repository:

[kernel-next]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

I do not know what the fun is in this statement. It is a quite old
issue and ioctl was there only because of the older modules/drivers
and so on.
This is an article from _2005_: http://lwn.net/Articles/119652/

Good news. Almost all driver-modules are ported.
What is missing should be done by next week.

Manuel will do a x86_64 compile later today.
