I am currently gathering all the bootlegs off Archive.org. This is
going to be in VBR mp3 form, so there are going to be some that are
currently only in flac that I would be grateful if someone could
upload in mp3 when I get to them. At the moment I have had no
troubles, and I know that some have notes requesting they are not re-
encoded but this is for a bigger project than just wanting to listen
to it.
Also, any video/dvd bootlegs that might be around. I have heard of
plenty but never got hold of any apart from the official dvds and
video. There is that brilliant pro-shot on youtube from around long
division/curtain but the uploader is seemingly unwilling to send me a
full dvd without the bands permission. I don't think he believes I
already asked Alan if he had any objections (which he obviously
didn't). But yeah, any live videos would be great too.
This is a stupid task but I wanted something to keep me occupied when
I'm bored, which is a lot these days. Anyone that knows of any shows
unavailable at the moment I would like to hear so I can find them
somehow. I wont be copying these til I have as many as possible. I
might even make a nice package for them. Demos would be a great find
too but as far as I understand, Alan didn't want them sharing when
they surfaced. Unfortunately for me, I never got hold of them!
Thank you all,
JT
I think these probably number in the low hundreds! There are dozens
of recorded Low shows from before 2001 that I don't have. Some of
which were recorded by listmembers but which I never got around to
acquiring, back when I was trying to keep an archive of the band's
live performances.
I oould try to make a list at some point; I know there were at least
two more shows around from 1994 (one of them in Danbury, CT), five or
six from 1995, and so on.
I hope you're able to scare some older shows up with your post. It's
a bit of a shame to do this project in MP3, but I understand why
you'd want to. If you do unearth anything new, be sure to get FLAC
copies too!
There are also a bunch of tapes in my own collection that aren't up
on Archive.org yet. I think this is all of them:
1995-02-25 - Let It Be Records, Minneapolis, MN (poor sound)
1995-03-05 - Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, CA
1996-01-xx - KUMD-FM, Duluth, MN
1996-01-20 - Lounge Ax, Chicago, IL (video)
1996-04-05 - Pioneer Square Theatre, Seattle, WA
1996-04-11 - KCRW-FM, Morning Becomes Eclectic, Santa Monica, CA
1996-06-08 - Highbury Garage, London, U.K.
1996-09-18 - The Black Cat, Washington D.C. (video)
1996-11-10 - Camden Underworld, London
1997-02-05 - Lucy's Records, Nashville, TN (video)
1997-03-20 - Bottleneck, Lawrence, KS (video)
1997-03-28 - Westbeth Theatre, New York, NY
1997-09-05 - Speak In Tongues, Cleveland, OH (video)
1997-11-03 - The Point, Atlanta, GA
1997-11-05 - Sudsy Malone's, Cincinnati, OH
1998-01-27 - Random Radio, Duluth, MN
1998-05-10 - Highbury Garage, London
1998-05-12 - Nijdrop, Opwijk, Belgium
1998-09-15 - 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle, WA
1998-10-07 - Proud Larry's, Oxford, MS
1998-10-26 - Bluebird Theatre, Denver, CO
1999-03-25 - 400 Bar, Minneapolis, MN (incomplete copy)
1999-09-15 - Charles Theatre, Baltimore, MD (MP3)
2000-11-10 - Union Chapel, Islington, U.K.
2001-01-25 - Gypsy Tea Room, Dallas, TX
I'd like to transfer and upload them at some point, but it's tricky
to find the time. Maybe I'll try to do a few sometime soon.
In any event, if listmembers have made recordings that aren't on the
Archive, please consider uploading them! There are several posters
here who would be happy to help guide you through the process.
Best,
Phil
In other news, I went to the RGC show last night in Washington DC.
I was fully impressed, as I expected to be, from the level of
intensity of the band.
They played the regular set list from previous nights, in different
order and ended up drenched in sweat.
After hearing repeated calls for a reggae song from one audience
member, they obliged with one of the encore tunes.
I talked with Alan after the show, he was upbeat and happy about the
solid crowd.

I've got a bootleg from 1993, but I got that off archive so you
probably still have that.
I have an excellent quality recording from Kilkenny last year which me
and my friend recorded and he has finished mastering. I did promise to
post this a lot sooner but rest assured it will surface as soon as my
friend sends it me (he lives miles away from me these days). I also
recorded the soundcheck and they played Words!

The only show I've never shared is the Xmas show in London, because it sounds quite awful.

As for Phil, anytime you see a show on archive.org or dime by
goldenband, that's him (and there are a lot of them!). Archive.org is
absolutely ideal as it's not in any danger of being shut down, has
nearly unlimited storage and bandwidth, and intends to keep the
archive online indefinitely. I have a few shows that aren't up there
and really have no good excuse why I haven't shared them. I will
eventually though.
Good luck with your project!

Obviously this is going to be a long running project. Finding the
recordings is probably the easiest part. Hopefully we can do a good
job on the ones that need it.
Don't hold your breath for this to be finished any time too soon, but
if I uncover any unheard gems I will share without hesitation!
