Good morning,

-->If law exists for Pc-PNDT, thats good. Atleast some guidelines do exist, so we as radiologists, may like to follow it. But major bulk is other category patients.
-->Like patients go for blood check investigations without any referral many a time
s, so if a radiologist agrees to take pain in analyzing old medical documents and making his own provisional diagnosis before imaging, then its an welfare initiative, its good for patient. Rather than roaming here and there, if patient first goes to a Doctor who is MD Radiology, the valuable time is saved.
-->Many other specialty doctors may not like it for the simple reason as this method cuts down their money making process.
-->Point not realted to issue being discussed- Radiology has grown a lot. Now a days, in most of the tricky cases, diagnosis is made only after imaging and lab investigations. Before imaging, the diagnosis remains surrounded by lot of "query" signs. Sometimes even 180 degree opposite diagnosis. And when the referring doctor is told about findings, he says...... "i know...... i know".

Regards,
Rahul

Hi,
Self referral is not allowed by radiologists for obstetric examination.
We need referral from any clinician and the xerox of referral form is also to be stored along with form-F & reports.
Many diagnostic centers in delhi are not doing obstetrics ultrasound without referral slips.

I agree with Dr bhavin's view that we are also clinicians, but thats not true in practice as law doesn't permit self referral in obstetrics ultrasound. We are under scrutiny of PC-PNDT Act.

Whether this question is with regard to pc-pndt or about radiologist as physician? I agree fully with bhavin. If it is regarding pc-pndt, we radiologists can do self referal, see pt advice usg test, do a registration with date and no and do the fetal study if pt is not having a prescription or has directly come to you. Patients consent with signature in register will be double safety.

Denying will not amount to negligence. A radiologist is also a doctor and a physician and has the right to decide what test to do when and on whom, assuming that the patient has asked our advice.

As per MCI, Radiology is a clinical specialty
All Radiologists are MBBS doctors first. If an MBBS can decide on a Radiological investigation, certainly a Radiologist can. By doing an additional Clinical Post Graduation, we do not loose the status of being a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery.
