I'm not sure when / how it happened, but at least with the ColdFusion
bundle I've been using, trying to complete attributes in CF tags only
resulted in generic HTML attribute completion. Finally it clicked
today that the problem lay (at least at one level) with the HTML
bundle. Searching, I found the preference "Completions HTML
Attributes" in the HTML bundle. In the scope selector box, I added
text.html.cfm to the list of excluded scopes, and .. hooray!
Productivity and happiness up 100%.

Technically I believe the problem is that CF tags are not registering
in the "source" scope, but I'm not going to try and fumble with that
just yet. Anyone else had this problem, or come up with an alternative
solution?

Are you referring to the Tab code completion?

No, I was actually referring to the <esc> completion of other words in
the document. Sorry, I think that first post was more exuberant than
lucid. Example:

<cfset foo = bar.quux()>
<cfset fo<esc>

When I hit that <esc> I would not be able to complete "foo" --
something that gets really annoying with descriptive variable/function
names, like hasSignedAgreement() or seminarsWithinDeadline(). For a
long time, I never had any problems with it, so again, I'm not exactly
sure what the root cause of the problem is, but I am nonetheless very
happy to have a solution.

Cheers
