OK - I was tinkering around in Trac today and realized there is no way
to actually delete comments from tickets (which is where most of the
spam is).

Looks like Trac v12 is going to have more ticket editing features and
is due out towards the end of the year so I don't see any reason we
can't wait til then to clean up tickets.

I might see if I can get a copy of the database to poke around in and
see if we can do anything from that angle as wel...

Parrot's trac instance (trac.parrot.org) has a plugin for deleting comments.

http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/TicketDeletePlugin

parrot requires a registration/login to do anything with tickets, but
we still get occasional spam ; this lets us delete the offending
comments but leave the rest of the ticket history intact.

Looks like we're using Trac 0.11.5 there.

Hope this helps.

We actually have the ticket delete stuff in there, but it's a separate
interface from the tickets.

(Admin > Delete Ticket Changes)

If we have access to the server which is running trac, I bet you
donuts to biscuits we could add a link from the ticket screen.

Donuts to biscuits? Well, whatever, ja'll know what I mean.

Well, uh, Biscuit by donut - that works perfectly. So next step is to
divy up and identify tickets w/spam. I'm guessing it's probably all
of em. :(

Not sure we want to do that but maybe we can grant that permission to
a select few.

What we probably need to do is divide up the list of ticket

User A - take 0-50
User B take 50-100
Etc.

Then identify which tickets

a) contain spam - need comments deleted
b) are spam and can be deleted

Or grant people access to use the tool above and let them delete it themselves.

I would say that it would be more effective to just give the people
the permission to delete it themselves. Then it only is reviewed once
and you don't have to redo all the same work.

At the same time if they have the access you might as well let them
keep the access and you have yourself a group of moderators.

If you want some help just let me know.

Agreed. OK - if you want access email me OFF LIST and let me know
what you would like your username to be.

I'll set you up a login, grant you the proper permissions and we can
go from there...

Please note I'm not going to give everyone on the list access :)

So email me - tell me what block of tickets you want to tackle and
we'll go from there.
