I've seen a lot of comments about line numbers not showing up while
editing remote files. I'm using Aptant's FTP ability to access the
files but I've seen others report a similar behaviour using RDS Has
anyone solved this? This issue has been identified here:

http://support.aptana.com/issues/browse/STU-72

"This is internal CFEclipse problem with opening files that are not
situated inside the workspace.
To check: take Eclipse 3.2 Platform , install CFEclipse 1.3 open
external file using File->Open File and you will see the same effect
as if open it from Aptana File Manager."

BTW, I do have Line Numbers checked in both the General and CFEclipse
preferences

thanks,

Its got to be said...

Don't edit files directly on a server!!  Its a disaster waiting to happen.  I know! I broke my own rules a bit over a week ago and had to spend a full day rebuilding some of the architecture for a website and that was lucky!

Develop locally, test locally, deploy changes to staging server, test again, deploy to production server, test some more.

Don't edit files on a server!  That'll resolve the problem of no line numbers when accessing files via FTP or RDS!
