Hello,

I receive the following error when attempting to create a basic .cfm
file:

"Unable to create this part due to an internal error. Reason for the
failure: The editor class could not be instantiated. This usually
indicates that the editor's class name was mistyped in plugin.xml."

I get this error on two separate machines, so I know it's not specific
to a single pc. I'm running FlexBuilder 2.0.1 and CFEclipse 1.3.1.4.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Gary

Do you have the full SDK version of Eclipse installed?

Hi Sonny,

Thanks for the response. My Installation procedure was this:

Downloaded FlexBuilder 2.01 from Adobe
Ran the install - standalone version
Browsed to and installed CF extensions in the adobe/cold fusion
extensions dir
Updates/Find and Install
Selected CFEclipse
Install All

That's my config as of right now.

I don't think that the FlexBuilder 2.01 installer includes all the dependencies that are required by CFEclipse (the SDK pieces).  I'm pretty sure that people who install the Aptana standalone run into the same issue.  There has to be a way to get these components after the fact, but I'm not aware of how it's done.

The most trouble-free installation seems to be downloading the full Eclipse SDK from www.eclipse.org and then installing all other features on top of that.  Someone on this list who has actually used FlexBuilder will need to confirm this, as I haven't used it.

You really only want to run flex in stand-alone mode if that's the
only thing you're going to use. Many, if not most, other plugins will
fail or cause problems that you don't expect if you try to use them
with this install. By far, the most flexible and reliable approach is
to get eclipse running first and then install flex-builder in plug-in
mode. As far as I can tell, there is no difference in functionality
and everything else seems to work as advertised. You may still have
the occasional version conflict or find a pair of plugins that don't
get along, but you'll get a lot further.

It may be enough to just use the Platform Runtime Binary, instead of the huge Platform SDK. I have the Aptana plugin and CFEclipse running on the Platform Runtime, and works fine for me.

Go to downloads page, Other Downloads for (version), get the Platform Runtime. only 34 MB instead of 121.

I think the issue is that they (Aptana at least, not sure about Flex Builder) build on the RCP (Rich Client Platform), which contains only the minimum, so they can include just enough to get their program's main features working (Aptana or Flex Builder features).  Platform Runtime includes enough to run as a program, enough features for CFEclipse, also includes Ant. Doesn't include Java development tools, though.
