Hi Nicky,
The project file type is .iwp and/or .iwzip.
On occasion, I have taken the hard disk out and placed it inside a ‘hard disk caddy’. Attach this to another PC in order to, hopefully, recover the file.
Must dash now and make a backup of my own drive!
Kind regards,
David

That's definitely worth a try, just because a hard drive fails to boot, does not necessarily mean that all files are lost.
Willie
Thanks David and Willie but I have done all the usual myself. put it in another computer as second drive, tried it in caddy, ran Stellar Pheonix Pro and then took the drive to the experts. They tried rescue software without success and suggested a figure to try the next process . I'd need to be the winner of the euro millions. There was nothing of value on the disc except the website files so spending money to rescue it wouldn't make sense.
Thanks
Nicky
Hi Nicky,
Sounds like you have done all of the steps – and more – to try and recover the Project file. I suggest you have no option but to start again, either with WebX5 or with Willie’s suggestions. At least you have the online content from which to Copy and Paste into whichever editor you opt for. There is no easy solution here – you might just have to take that one on the chin …and it’s a timely and salutary lesson for the rest of us (well, me anyway!) who don’t do those regular backups L

IMHO
People could use:
Dropbox Pro (as this has ‘versioning’ so you can see various versions of files), it’s $100 per year but worth it
Additionally backup your whole Dropbox folder (or your NAS drive) using Amazon Glacier (http://aws.amazon.com/glacier/ which is really inexpensive)
Having it in the ‘cloud’ is not a proper backup ;)
If you have to do something manually in your process, it’s not a proper backup ;)
If you have not tested that you can ‘restore’ successfully, it’s not a proper backup ;)
It all depends on what balance of convenience/cost Vs Backup you choose J
Kindest Regards,
Seaghan.
Personally, I used BackBlaze for a few months, but during a test, found I was unable to download a backup (this may have been my inadequacy at the time). I now use CrashPlan and am able to browse and download earlier versions of backups/files etc. So, I suppose mileage will vary…
HTH

Seaghan.
