A propos the recent (very interesting) conversation about Moodle in
schools...

As a TPN, part of our remit is to look at what CPD we can provide for
our members and colleagues. Our Annual Conference, CESI Meets and
occassional training days (eg our recent Scratch Saturdays) cover many
of these needs on an ongoing basis.

In this light, could I hop a ball and ask: how many CESI listers would
be interested in some training on Moodle?

All we need to know at this stage is whether there's a critical mass
interested - we can take the planning from there if necessary.

I would be very interested in attending some training in Moodle. - I would
love to learn more about it e.g. how to add interactive tools and how to
customise the interface to make it more attractive for young children.

Me too.  I believe Moodle 2.0 is due out this September so would be interested to see if it's more suitable for little ones.

I'd be interested too. Went to a course last year but it was extremely
technical and I (like a bold student) tuned off and got v little from
the course. This had never happened to me before or since so would
like to give a user-friendly course a go.

Mags,

I see that there's an amount of interest in moodle and wondered if teachers
who are using it or similar technologies at primary school level could meet,
in the company of moodle / google / vle / mle experts - technological and
pedagogical, and share what they are doing, discuss the challenges and
receive guidance and training on the way forward. I don't ask for much, do
I?

There is (or was) an Irish MUG that held several Moodle "Moots" (named
after Ent Moots for the Tolkien fans). This was a couple of years ago and
it was mostly a 3rd level crowd at the time (TCD Dental Hospital, RCSI,
UCD Medicine, NUIM, DCU, Griffith, ....), though perhaps it's time to give
it a new jolt of life. There were a number of companies who presented and
sponsored the event too.

Their website address is/was:
http://www.moodle.ie

but it seems to be down just now. Like moodle.org, the site itself was a
moodle site. Perhaps things have lost momentum a little.

** Update from NDLR **

Below [1] is the response I got from NDLR regarding organisational access. I have to say I’m impressed with their responsiveness and flexibility. So it looks like anyone from the CESI list here can get full access by virtue of their membership of Scoilnet, for example. Yvonne’s email is: help...@ndlr.ie

[1]

Hi Seaghan,

Hope all is well. Thank you for your email below and for your interest in the NDLR.

I have discussed the membership of Scoilnet, NCTE and HEA membership with my NDLR colleagues and we are delighted to say that, yes membership with HEA institutions, NCTE & Scoilnet enables you to access the NDLR repository!

I have processed your registration further, so when you log on to the NDLR Repository, you should now have full access to upload, download and browse resources.

If you have any colleagues that are interested in joining the NDLR, please ask them to email me outlining which of the above three membership options applies to them and I will happily process their registrations.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance!

Thanks & Best Wishes,

Yvonne
