A friend is looking for do something productive with her old pc.

She lives in Cork so the drop-off locations for camera.ie (Dublin, Belfast and Galway) are not an option.

Are there other options?

Thanks for that - it doesn't mention Cork on the website (as far as I can tell) but I just spotted John's email where it does get mentioned.

Cheers,

I'm not surprised you didn't see it on the website Noel - it's a bit of a mess. It seems to depend on what sequence of pages you click on to get to it but you'll find the Bandon drop-off centre mentioned here -  http://green.camara.ie/contact-2/drop-off-locations/

I actually dropped off 3 old PCs there on Monday. And made the mistake of not phoning Mark before I left home. When I got to the drop off point (at Bandon self-storage) at 12:30pm there was no-one there and the door was closed. I tried phoning Mark a few times and got no answer. So then I phoned Kieran who runs the self-storage centre (and whose name and number were on the window) and he was kind enough to come around and open the door for me. Camara just rent a storage unit in the centre.

As I was driving home I finally got a call back from Mark who quite apologetic and thanked me profusely. So I guess there was some good reason he wasn't answering at the time.

Hi All,

Thanks for your interest in dropping computers to Camara in Cork.

Unfortunately, as James' experience shows, we are only getting started
in Cork and the set up is not really up and going yet.

For the moment the best bet is to ring Mark Mulvihill on 086 8549111
and he will be able to confirm the times that he will be at the
storage unit. This set up is not ideal. This arrangement should have
been clarified in the recent email, James, I'm sorry you were left
waiting.

Thanks for thinking of Camara!

Steven.

Oh, one other thing to note!

James mentioned that the camara.ie website is looking a bit rough at
the moment - we're currently redesigning the whole thing and hope to
launch soon! Unfortunately, resources being as limited as they are, we
have neglected the current version a little recently :(

Any chance that someone going to CESI conference on Saturday might be willing to take a boot/car load of computers from me for onward transportation to Camara drop-off? As there is no drop off in Limerick I just won't be able to drop off by 29th Feb.

In hope...

Hi GP

I'd be willing.  Small hatchback car so that should do it.

I'll drop it out to the Camara Chapelizod drop off point some time during the following week.

See you on Sat.

Dwayne.

Hi Dwayne

That's great - my mobile is 087 2346850 - so that we can liaise. Whatever you can take. I'll prioritise computers over CRT monitors when loading up!

Cheers

Stephen, I hope I didn't sound too critical in that last message. I think what Camara is doing is brilliant and I'll continue to recommend to people to take their old computers to you. My issue in Bandon was mostly my own fault for not phoning ahead. And the lads were great once I managed to make contact.

And my use of the word 'mess' in reference to the website was too harsh - it was just that it took me ages to rediscover the correct path to get back to the page with information about the Bandon drop-off point. I can totally empathise as regards the difficulties of having limited resources, and you guys are doing an amazing job despite that.

Keep up the great work.
