issues w/ gmail thru the ncte connection ?

Hi folks,

Our secretary's having trouble getting at her email (dspns.ie is set up
in google apps); whether we try POP or IMAP, it gives a complaint about
not being able to verify "pop.gmail.com" or "imap.gmail.com". This is
on an iMac running 10.5.8 and using the Mail.app.

I've tried fiddling with her keychain and the rest, but no luck. By any
chance have any of you encountered this at your school? I've tried a
similar setup outside of the school's connection, and can't reproduce it.
