AMES, IA September 15, 2009 (technology reporters, experts in
networking, information technology, regional technology reporters) –
The Iowa State University Research Park and the Iowa State University
CyberInnovation Institute today announced that the two have partnered
to bring two of the world’s most renown experts in cloud computing to
Ames, IA and the Iowa State University campus as part of, “Get Your
Head in the Cloud,” Cloud Computing Conference and Networking event to
be held September 24 and 25, 2009.
Keynote speakers are cloud computing experts Jeff Barr, of Amazon.com
and Dennis Quan of IBM (see attached speaker bios). The two day event
will feature three tracks of presentations, networking events,
roundtable discussions and Q/A forums for specific audiences and will
be free of charge for all participants.
"Get Your Head in the Cloud’s” primary purpose is to educate users,
consumers, researchers and anyone else interested in cloud computing
that it is a viable, reliable, and sustainable technology that
provides value today said Jim Oliver, Director of the CyberInnovation
Institute. We hope that with Jeff and Dennis’ assistance we can spur
innovation locally and inform the thinking of some of Iowa’s top
executives. The knowledge our presenters bring to this event is aimed
at businesses and organizations who are utilizing the Cloud today,
thinking of utilizing the Cloud tomorrow, or have heard of the Cloud
and are curious about its uses and implications. This topic is
relevant, fresh and “all over” in the information technology space.
This event stands to be of substantial value and impact for Iowa
businesses and researchers involved in information technology”.
Although organized and hosted by ISU’s Research Park and
CyberInnovation Institute, the event is also supported and sponsored
by the Ames Chamber of Commerce, Iowa State University, The Des Moines
Partnership, the Iowa Department of Economic Development and the
Technology Association of Iowa, as well as ISU’s Departments of
Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The organizers’ goal is to make this an annual event showcasing and
playing host to the world’s greatest experts in cloud computing and
will heavily promote collaborative analysis of the latest trends,
challenges and opportunities afforded by Cloud computing.
"We are thrilled to play a part bringing this type of talent and
knowledge on such a relevant topic to Iowa State and Ames,” said Steve
Carter, Director of the ISU Research Park/Pappajohn Center for
Entrepreneurship. “We believe that there are executives all over the
Midwest that can benefit from the firsthand knowledge that Jeff and
Dennis will bring here. We are also thrilled to give a few of the
companies in the ISU Research Park who are working on innovative
projects in the Cloud an opportunity to interface with these high
level professionals from two world leaders in Cloud Computing.”
