Error - Attempting to deserialize an empty stream

Working in converting a 50 page document with word form field to PDF
form fields. Yesterday I did one more page after not touching the
document for a couple of weeks. When I select Field Manager i get the
following error message: There was an error during the operation.
Additional information: Attempting to deserialize an empty stream.
I get the same error if i try to export to PDF. I tested with a new
document with no errors.

I am sorry for the trouble. It sounds the document was corrupted.
