Bentley, (513)366-2041 This requirement is for providing support in
animal care to the National Environmental Research Laboratory -
Cincinnati (NERL-CI), located at the Andrew W. Breidenbach
Environmental Research Center (AWBERC) Cincinnati, OH. Animal Care
Support Services will involve the on-site management of the AWBERC
animal facility including veterinarian services (20%) of one person
year), and furnishing of research animals and various supplies that
are necessary to operate the facility. In addition, the contractor
will provide animal husbandry including disease control for
particular animal species being used. The research program involves
a variety of toxicology studies of both long and short duration
with various compounds administered orally and topically.
Approximately 10,000 rodents are used annually and the average
daily population 1000 rodents. Other species include calf, shrews,
fish, amphibians, shellfish, and earthworms. Contractor on-site
personnel must be qualified, knowledgeable, and experienced in all
aspects of laboratory animal care, as well as facility management.
This will include providing for complicance with Animal Welfare Act
legislation and regulation, the National Institute of Health
''Guide for the care and use of Laboratory Animals'', and
requirements of the American Association for the Accreditation of
Laboratory Animal Care. The contractor will be responsible for all
aspects of employee safety including factors relating to the
testing of hazardous substances. It is anticipated that the
Government will award a Cost Plus Fixed Fee contract with four (4)
12 month option periods. This is a follow-on requirement. The
current contract number is 68-C3-0360 with Pathology Associates.
