Hi Ernie, love the name of your boat we are Pelican #80 ha haaaaaaa. My setup for the preventer is a boom brake by Walder. Wishard makes one also but I went with the Walder. I hang it from the selden rod kicker by a dyneema loop #1 to prevent ware on the vang metal to metal contact, and also to put a little space between the vang and the brake. I put a Ronstan block on the port shroud contecting point also with a dyneema loop once again to prevent metal to metal ware. I run a line from the starboard shroud connecting point, through the brake to the port Ronstan block then back to the cockpit, under the dodger and use the port cabin top winch to operate the brake. It works well for me and also doubles as a means to use the boom as a span for a flopper stopper when at anchor if needed. This setup to me is the strongest possible arrangement and also negates the problem of lines across the deck to the toerail as possible tripping points.
