Strange exception when calling Api.setApplicationConf()

I'm posting this here in hopes that someone might be able to steer us in
the right direction. We have a Cascalog process that we're using
Spring-Hadoop & Spring-Batch to send to a remote Hadoop cluster. It seems
as though Spring-Hadoop is doing something funky with the
classpath/classloader and we're getting the following exception when we run

good question. how about we tag our name on the section that we want to
work on in the google doc before drafts, and then push often to the github
repo as we fill in content?

This is great. I suppose the question now is: how shall we divide up the
work?

I think there are a few of us already looking at the docs (which we should
also think about how we'll divide it up).

Thanks for the reply Soren. I'll give the MapR distribution a try as well.

Out of interest since the MapR AMI's are roughly 25% more expensive, what

I run thrift 0.8.0 on EMR with the latest AMI 2.3.5, however I am using
MapR M3 edition, not the standard apache/amazon hadoop distro. That said, I
have no issues with thrift 0.8.0 on MapR/EMR.

are chapters on Cascalog and Scalding included. Should be going into
"Rough Cuts" soon, will be in print before Hadoop Summit.

Would it be useful to glean any text, examples, quotes, etc., from the
O'Reilly book?
There are two chapters about Cascalog.

For example, "City of Palo Alto Open Data" recommender in Cascalog might be
used for an example.

A tutorial or example of using Cascalog with Avro would be useful. I can
probably find time to contribute this.
