Last week my colleague Age Mooij gave the presentation "Why Hadoop
MapReduce needs Scala" to the combined meetup of the Dutch Scala
Enthusiasts and the Dutch Hadoop User Group.
He describes the path from vanilla Map Reduce to Pig to Cascading to
Scoobi/Scalding with the mandatory WordCount examples.

Note if you are used to cascading, migrating to scalding, which is a layer on top, is fairly easy. You can use your old operations within a scalding job no problem, but defining new ones is a lot more convenient.
