The Mayor encourages residents to register their planted tree to help the TreeVitalize Tree Count Program register 20,000 newly planted trees in Allegheny County by 2012.

TreeVitalize's community planting season starts this Saturday on the south side, says Bergman. This multi-partner program brings new trees to neighborhoods all over the Pittsburgh area, with the help of an arborist who specializes in urban environments. Interested in getting new trees planted in your neighborhood? Bergman says give him a call or visit the TreeVitalize website for more information.

Hi All!

I just heard from Lisa Ceoffee, The Pittsburgh Urban Forester, and she
said she gave away 150 seedlings Wednesday!! That means Carrick will
have 150 new trees! Lisa is very excited about the turnout and said
she plans to do this every fall!

Additionally, as many of you know for about a year and a half I have
been taking request from property owners on Brownsville Rd. to have a
tree planted on their property. We have had 40+ trees planted so far
out of the 60 promised us from the Mayor. Lisa told me recently that
we will be receiving many more than the original 60 thanks to the
stimulus. Brownsville Rd. has been identified as a major corridor in
need of trees. Beginning in the spring contractors will plant new
trees on Brownsville Rd. and maintain them for two years. The Carrick
Tree Tenders will also help to maintain the trees. Anyone who
requested a tree for this fall's palnting will recieving their tree in
the spring.

Letters will be mailed out to property owners on Brownsville and they
will have the opportunity to opt out of having a tree. We hope they
won't!!
