Dear Jane,

Thank you for your email and all the information.

The Turpins in Oakvale cemetery in Stradbally are my grandparents and great grandparents.  James Turpin killed in Belfast air raid was my grandfather's eldest brother. My great grandfather lived in both America and Australia.  On his return from Australia in 1860 he leased some land from Cosbys in Stradbally and built a shop - his youngest son, my grandfather, took over the shop and my father lived in Stradbally as a small boy.  But there was no family connection with Stradbally before that. Would like to find out more about life of Turpins in Stradbally.

The Turpins in Maryborough are not related to the Stradbally Turpins, at least if they are we are talking of realtionship back in 1700s.

My greatgrandfather was born in Dublin, his father, Peter Turpin, was a jeweller there.  His mother, Ann, was daughter of John Maurice and Sarah Ince who farmed at Oakhill, Abbeyleix.  Peter and Ann moved to Abbeyleix in 1826 and are both buried in Abbeyleix new churchyard. So history of Turpins before that is in Dublin but I know nothing of it apart from name of Peter's father, Thomas Turpin.

One of the sons,of John and Sarah Maurice, John, remained farming in Abbeyleix and also there was a Robert Maurice farming in Abbeyleix in mid 19th century.  I have not ascertained exactly that they were father and son but think it likely.  Would be delighted if I could find out more about them.

Maurices came to Ireland with Cromwell but had come to England previously from France, they were Huguenots.  In 19th century were Methodists.  I know quite a lot about children of John and Sarah Maurice, and if anyone is interested in this family would be glad to pass on information.

Thank you for information about Burrows and Lysters.  I know nothing about these families so any information is very welcome.

Kath
