CNU New York’s
Regional Summit at Schenectady’s Stockade
May 10 - May 11, 2013 (Friday evening and Saturday) At the
Stockade Inn, Mad Jack Brewing and Van Dyck Lounge
Schenectady, NY
Schenectady’s
Stockade District is among the oldest neighborhoods in the USA
with over 40 buildings older than 200 years. The Stockade
district was established as a Dutch and Native American
trading post in 1661 and is an inspiration to New Urbanists.
The adjacent Schenectady downtown received a stunning, New
Urbanist makeover in 2010. The Congress for the New
Urbanism (CNU)is the leading
national organization promoting walkable, mixed-use
neighborhood development, economic sustainability and
healthier living conditions, and CNU New York is our state
chapter. The Schenectady event
will address a key topic in the Capital Region Economic
Sustainability of our towns, villages, cities, and
neighborhoods. We will also discuss planning in the 10 New
York State Economic Regions. Our Regional Summit in
Schenectady will also discuss CNU 22, the national meeting of
the Congress for the New Urbanism in Buffalo in June 2014.
Expect a relaxed program with plenty of time for conversation,
organizing and networking, featuring author and artist James
Howard Kunstler on Friday evening; an introduction and
refresher about what’s new in New Urbanism Saturday morning;
and an intense discussion about regional development and
sustainability issues on Saturday afternoon with local,
regional, and national speakers and panelists. Who should go? Activists interested in smart growth,
sustainable policies and practices
Economic Development policy
makers and staff
Architects
Planners interested in smart code
and context sensitive solutions
Developers interested in
financing and marketing the best projects
Local officials, in New York
State and nearby states and provinces
