Kaltura recommended version OR alternatives?

Hi all, we decided to use Kaltura CE3 for testing with our Canvas instance due to it seeming to be the most readily supported version & having an EC2 AMI available to setup quickly.  As we are progressing I am reaching a point where we'll need to rebuild our Kaltura server and I am wondering if anyone has suggestions/direction on which version seems to work the best with Canvas.  

Also, we're not married to Kaltura, and quite frankly found it a little frustrating to work with, so any other suggestions for a media playing server/service that would be easy to integrate are also welcome.

Am I pushing my luck with too many questions?

We currently run CE3 in Canvas Cloud, so that's your safest bet. We are evaluating CE6, but don't have any information on that yet. As for an alternative… anything else would need support added to Canvas, as it uses very specific Kaltura APIs right now. Long-term we'd like to make a plugin interface within Canvas so you can use whatever you'd like, but that's a ways off.
